Blu-ray is a next-generation optical disc format of DVD, and is renowned for its superb high definition picture quality. A Blu-Ray DVD is named for the blue lasers that read it.  It has first-class surround sound, vivid colour and an amazingly sharp picture, so much so that it often seems like you’re watching something happening in real life.

A Blu-Ray disc carries up to 5 times more information than the standard DVD, which means it can offer more interactive features and bonus content. Plus, the discs are highly durable, resistant to dirt and scratches.  You’ll find that these discs provide a picture quality of up to 6 times better than standard DVDs, and they have a resolution display of 1080p. This allows colors to appear more accurately, and you can actually see the fine detail of textures, which make the whole viewing experience very lifelike.

When it comes to sound, Blu-Ray has up to 7.1 channels of high-def surround sound.  This means the audio is deeper and more resonant than with any other type of audio set-up available for home use.  In addition, the discs are virtually indestructable, being resistant to dust and fingerprints, making them virtually scratch-proof. Storage capacity is higher than standard DVDs, with up to 50GB of info capable of being stored on any one disc.

If  you want to watch a Blu-Ray DVD, you’ll need a special DVD player, as well as a high definition television.  Don’t worry about not being able to play your old DVDs anymore, since Blu-Ray players can play other kinds of DVDs. Once you switch to Blu-Ray, you’ll be a believer, since you’ll see first-hand how this technology has revolutionized the home theater experience!
